A few days ago I was asking a friend, a man the same age as me, about the efficacy of the dick pump - described in a previous dispatch - and given to me as a seventieth birthday present. These techniques to raise an erection ask many important questions about what sex is and what it means. For instance, it might be mistaken to think that orgasm is the point of sex. Surely, we can imagine a satisfying sexuality that isn’t dependent on the rise and fall of a dick? After all, many women do not, or cannot, experience orgasm during sexual intercourse, and yet may still enjoy the experience, and the same can be said for some men, particularly fetishists.
