Dear Readers, my dispatches will always be free and open to everyone. I am unable to use my hands and I’m writing, via dictation, with the help of my family. If you could become a paid subscriber and support me, it’d mean so much. Dear Hanif As I said in my message to you yesterday, I really appreciated your piece on my moment as a heartthrob , a moment which was mercifully brief and not terribly good for me in some ways. The ego can be a monstrous thing, and it's best not fed too rich a diet. I'm glad I never achieved the fame I craved in those crazy adolescent years.
This was very interesting to read. Thank you and I wish you all the best.
Moving. So many young people wanted to escape Bromley. Thanks for your honesty.
Thank you both.
David, it was fascinating to hear your side of things. I’m glad you’ve found a happier way to be.
Hanif, Thankyou for sharing this.
What an open and honest reply. Glad to hear that you found your way at last!
Wow. Thank you x
Re: Birdy Num Nums. Dear Mr Kureishi, I am sorry that you are unwell, I have a question to ask you. I won't apologise for taking up your time as I am sure everyone does, because I'm still doing it, aren't I? My question is this: you once described your Dad saying Birdy Num Nums when he was putting on his shoes. WHY then? Why was it just when he was putting on his shoes??? I sat through the whole of relevant Peter Sellers film to try to find out, and am none the wiser. Please enlighten me. Or don't, it's up to you, obviously....
